What methodology was used? This study was conducted among the 50 largest cities in France between June and September 2023. The questionnaire, filled out by their Green Spaces department and elected officials, covered 97 indicators, weighted and grouped into four categories: Green Heritage, Functioning and Organization, Actions and Initiatives, Sensitization, and Promotion.

The results were then cross-referenced with INSEE data on cities and their population.

It has increased compared to 2020 (+€4), unlike the area dedicated to green spaces per inhabitant, which remains at 50m².

The number of trees per 100 inhabitants has slightly increased, from 11 in 2020 to 12 in 2023. However, it promises to experience a significant increase in the coming years as municipalities announce tree planting within the framework of city nature plans.
